Harry Reid Loose Lips

Senator Harry Reid is reported to have wandered into loose lips sink ships territory with speculation about Bin Laden's death in Pakistan's quake zone that is at once naive, clumsy, revealing, hollow and laughable: if he knows what he's talking about, silence; if he doesn't know what he's talking about, silence: speculation about such a significant event from a senior member of government that is later proved groundless or facile contributes to the enemy sense of superiority.  Al Jaz will enjoy laughing at the United States on the basis of Reid's ignorance.

Raising again the puzzle: are the Democrats the loyal opposition, or just the opposition, or are they bluntly unsure?

And how much of Reid's spontaneous indiscretion was fueled by the Democrat anxiety that a Bin Laden capture, or Zarqawi capture, launches a rush of patriotism in support of the Bush Doctrine?

"Nevada Senator Harry Reid thinks Osama Bin Laden was killed in last month's earthquake in Pakistan.

Speaking Wednesday on News 4's Nevada News Makers, Reid says he was informed today that Bin Laden may have died in the October temblor.

"I heard today that he may have died in the earthquake that they had in Pakistan, seriously." Reid says that if that is the case, "that's good for the world."

When asked about Bin Laden during an exclusive News 4 interview, Reid said, "I'm not sure he is alive anymore. I think perhaps the earthquake took him down. I certainly hope so."

Dingy Harry by RetNAV

Wonder how Harry knows all of this. As good as this news would be, if it is true, does Harry think he's advancing the foreign policy or terrorism fighting of the United States by speculating on this in this manner.

I can imagine scenarios whereby the demise of OBL or Zarqawi might be kept under wraps for intelligence reasons. So, Harry just wants to throw this out there to let people know he's in the know. Or to steal some thunder from the Administration.

Assuming it isn't just another Democrat smoking those funny cigarettes with no writing on the wrapper, where would he get this idea? (a) Pure BS; Pakistan + Bin Laden + Earthquake = Dead Bin Laden? (b) Information directly from Pakistan? (c) Intelligence briefing from US government? It would appear to my untrained eye that if it was (b) he should be talking to the CIA not a Nevada TV show. And if it's (c) then he ought to be talking to the US Attorney about his forthcoming indictment.

I think that bin Laden by kingronjo

was beamed up to the Mother Ship so he wouldnt be able to call Allah for the upcoming Intergalactic War.

One would think by nrfaulk

that if this particle of news might have come to Dingy Harry from a realiable source, he would keep it quiet.  Or is it a Democrat "thing" to spill all the beans at every opportunity?

I just pray that the Dims are never, ever again in charge of our national security.

Reid's actions are part of a pattern of disregard when it comes to keeping secrets.  Remember how he unfairly slimed Henry Saad, the conservative judge from Michigan, over his classified FBI file which Reid shouldn't have even had access to?

I can see how some of us may be concerned over Reid's new comments about UBL, from the standpoint that he may be unwisely divulging sensitive or classified information on a purely speculative basis, but at the risk of appearing cynical:

  1. We have not heard from UBL in quite a while, just his #2, al Zawahiri, which gave us hope that his kidneys might have finally done him in
  2. This may bring forward new information, or a new transmission from UBL verifying whether or not he actually is taking a "dirt nap."
  3. A leading Democrat (and not anyone from the administration) has stuck his head out, the useful idiot that he is, and when he is forced to eat it, his bafoonery will once again remind the American people why they gave the adults the controls in '04, and why they should do it again in '08.

This misstep may once again prove the old saw, "Far better to keep your mouth shut and feign stupidity than to open it, and eliminate all doubt."

Bin Laden might've been snuffed by the quake?  Where COULD the gentleman from Nevada have gotten such an idea...?

Hmm...<checks Google News>

Oh yeah, the news media.  The speculation has been flying around for about A MONTH now.  Ferchryinoutloud, I heard it on CNN a few weeks ago!  A search for [bin laden killed earthquake] gets you 144 hits.  Do it on google.com, and you get

You wanna bash Democrats, go ahead.  It's pitiful, but sure.  Just make sure you've got a freakin' leg to stand on.
